Nowadays the herbal health drinks market has exploded. There are vitamins and minerals added to many beverages, including water. Herbs have been known to have certain health properties and have been used to help relieve some ailments. Herbs can be anything from rose-hips to flowers such as dandelion.

Tea is probably the most popular of all drinks. The original teas came from China and were soaked in hot water and enjoyed for their unique flavor. These days tea has all manner of different things in it, from chamomile to peppermint. And that's why the definition of tea nowadays includes plant extracts.

The method of making the drink has not really changed over the years. You put the fresh herbs or the teabag in a cup and pour hot water over them. Usually you leave the herbs to infuse the water for around five minutes. Some people have taken things a little further by using an infusion teapot. This allows you to use loose leaves and bark, as the teapot has a filter that allows you to pour the liquid into a cup without getting any residue in the cup.

If you are using fresh herbs then as a rule use two teaspoons per cup. If using dried herbs then use around one teaspoon per cup. A lot of people have a problem with the lack of sweetness in the drinks and will add honey. They do not add sugar because it does not taste as nice. Additionally, honey is a natural sugar and some people prefer to ingest natural sugars.

A herbal tonic is something that is usually made with red wine and fresh herbs. It takes a while to produce the beverage but it is worth it. You'll need a jar and some fresh herbs. Wash and dry the herbs and place them in the jar. Add the red wine, filling until the herbs are covered, and then stir using a wooden spoon. Seal the jar and wait for 4 weeks before drinking a little each day.

If you do not want to make your own drink then be sure to pick one that has been thoroughly researched and contains quality ingredients. Ideally, it should have no additives, coloring or flavorings, just natural ingredients.

Peppermint tea is often used with stomach problems, such as bloating. These can be grown in the garden and once picked can be washed and used right away. Ginger is another product that has a good reputation. It's said to be great for motion sickness. Simmer a root of ginger for ten minutes, add a squeeze of fresh lemon and honey and you have something that can help fight colds.

One of the benefits of herbal health drinks is the lack of additives and things like caffeine. They can be a very versatile drink too, with many different medicinal uses. It can help calm the mind too. Some people like nothing better than to sit back with a cup of chamomile and spearmint tea and relax.
