Have You Been Unknowingly Undermining Your Diet?

By Kim Howerton

Everybody knows that the most effective foods we can consume are whole grains, lean meats and healthy fats. These are the ingredients that will give us the energy and protein we need. They keep our bodies nutritionally well balanced with minimal calories while we work hard to burn off our fat at the gym. Did you realize though that a few of the diet foods you've been consuming may have been hindering your ability to lose weight? They could even be trying to keep you from losing weight altogether! Here are a number of the foods that might be undermining your diet work.

You usually are not truly aided by Sports Drinks. You've probably been thinking that the sports drink is the proper way to help your body feel greater after a workout. Most medical doctors concur, however, that if your exercise routine is shorter than ninety minutes, drinking water should be fine. Sports drinks are packed with sugar and calories and a lot of other things you don't need like artificial flavors and colors which defeat any attempts at eating only natural products. Instead, try consuming some chocolate milk. The sugar in chocolate can help your muscles start to mend themselves plus the calcium in the milk will strengthen your bones.

Skip your protein shakes. Lots of people think that having a protein shake is a good way to curb cravings between meals. What you're actually doing, specifically if the remainder of your diet consists of whole and healthy foods, is helping your body overdose on protein. No matter what other folks believe, protein is not kept in the muscles, it is stored in your body as fat. If you've already had your daily allotment of protein that day, your whole body will just save the extra in your fat cells for later and that won't help you drop pounds or inches.

Pre-packaged deli meat isn't very nutritious at all. You may possibly imagine that a sandwich made from whole wheat bread and pre-packaged lean deli meat makes for a good lunch. The real truth is that pre-packaged deli meat has a large amount of preservatives and definately will provide you with about a third of your recommended sodium consumption for the day. This can be specifically problematic if you are prone to heart disease. Rather than buying pre-packaged deli meat, choose some home cooked chicken or the deli meat that is freshly sliced at your deli counter. Sure they are a lot more expensive options but they are rather a lot healthier for you.

There are a lot of things that we imagine will help us shed weight like eating a whole wheat bagel each morning but the truth is that eating a bowl of oatmeal sprinkled with cinnamon is a lot better for our health and waist lines. Ask a medical expert which items are the finest to eat and then follow the directions you are given. If you are careful about precisely what you eat and treat your body well, losing weight should not be that big of an issue for you!
